As with other leading nations, nanotech is in the early stages of commercialization in Israel. Very serious investments are still required to bring about the birth of a sustainable nanotech-related industry.
Israel's unique national challenge is to focus very limited resources on commercialization of innovative products that can succeed in the near term and yet remain competitive over the long term.
The INNI nanotech R&D survey identifies over 80 Israeli firms engaged in developing nanotech-related products. Some 65 of these companies are startups with core missions devoted entirely to nano-enabled or nano-enabling products.
Not surprisingly, the industry sectors most strongly represented by Israeli nanotech companies are identical to the disciplines being researched in Israeli academic institutions: nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology and nanoelectronics.
In addition, Israel is home to a small number of companies that develop advanced nanotechnology tools as well as nanotech-based filtration and membrane products.
