President Emeritus of Applied Materials, Inc.
Dan Maydan is president emeritus of Applied Materials, Inc. and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1992. From 1994 to April 2003 he served as president of the Company.
Prior to joining Applied Materials in 1980, Dr. Maydan spent 13 years managing new technology development at Bell Laboratories during which time he pioneered key advances in laser applications, x-ray lithography, and plasma etch technology.
Dr. Maydan's contributions have been recognized in numerous national and industry awards, including the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) first-ever lifetime achievement award and the induction of the Precision 5000 semiconductor manufacturing system (which he co-developed) at the Smithsonian Institution as part of its collection of breakthrough technologies which have helped shape society and the modern world.
His support of Israeli industry and causes was recognized through the State of Israel Jubilee Award, the International Partnership Award from the California Israel Chamber of Commerce, the Israel Trade Award from the Israel Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti-Defamation League.
Dr. Maydan received an Honorary Doctorate from the Technion and a month later was admitted to the degree of Doctor honoris causa from Edinburgh University, in Scotland. Dr. Maydan received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in Physics from Edinburgh University in Scotland.
